My wife, as you probably have gleaned, is a scientist. Doctorate in astronomy/astrophysics. Lots of women in astronomy, in fact of her team of five or six there's two men, I don't know what the gender make-up of the other telescope is.
She told me the story of a very-well regarded astronomer who regularly made presentations at conferences. This guy then transitioned to female. At a later conference, after she gave another presentation, two people were overheard saying "Good panel", the other replied "Yeah, but she's not as good as her brother."
People are idiots, especially men, and I really hate how women have been put-down over the ages. It's kind of funny, though: we have three regular positions in my library. My previous director, during Covid, was really concerned that I might quit as I was kind of viewed as a bit of a gender hire as the other positions always seem to be women.
